Sport Volunteer Abroad: FAQs
You’re probably wondering about all the details that go into planning a big international trip like this. Global Crossroads has helped 20,000 volunteers do this since 2003, so let us take care of all those details for you. Here’s some important info to know when traveling with us:
Arrival and departure
You have to fly into Rio de Janeiro International Airport to enroll in our Youth Athletics volunteer program in Brazil. Global Crossroad advises all of its volunteers to come to Brazil one day before the start date of their volunteer projects.
Global Crossroad’s local representative will be waiting for you at the airport terminal. He/she will greet and then transfer you to your respective accommodations. We always suggest our volunteers to provide correct flight details to our country coordinator before their departure.
Remember to contact our country coordinator if there are any delays or change of plans regarding your flight to Brazil. That way, we can reschedule pick-up time at the airport on time for our volunteers who’ve decided to join our Sport Volunteer Abroad:.
Visa
You will need a tourist visa. There’s not one available at the airport in Rio, though, so you’ll need to plan ahead. You can visit the official embassy or consulate of Brazil in your home country. Depending on your nationality, you can skip the trip and apply for a Brazilian e-Visa. Check out this website and do your research based on your home country’s requirements.
Vaccination
Nothing will put a damper on a sports volunteer opportunity to Brazil like an unexpected illness. Protect yourself before you travel by getting vaccinated. See your doctor at least a few weeks before heading abroad.
Vaccinations for yellow fever, typhoid, influenza, polio, pneumonia, hepatitis B, hepatitis A, chickenpox, shingles, meningitis, rabies, Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis), measles, mumps and rubella are recommended.
