Trip Dates
July 9-22, 2006
Oct 1-14, 2006
A Himalayan country, Nepal suffers from severe poverty. The ultimate victims of poverty are the children in Nepal . Statistics shows that o ut of 100 children in Nepal , 68 are admitted to school, but only 27 complete their primary level of education. There is an urgent need to support the children in Nepal . As a part of “Humanitarian Trip” Nepal , we will be helping Nepalese kids by renovating a primary school.
We will renovate Shree Panchadeep Primary School in Chitwan, 150 miles West South of Kathmandu, capital city of Nepal . Since the last 13 years, this school, which offers primary school education to 112 local children, is still in its incomplete condition (please see photos). The school windows and doors are not properly fixed or broken. And other infrastructures of the school are also in very primitive forms. Every year, children of this school suffer from adverse climatic conditions especially in heavy rain, very hot and cold days. Unfortunately, the local parents are very poor and have no resources to complete the project renovation.
On the Humanitarian Trip
As a volunteer in this project, you will fix the doors, windows, children desks, roofs, and other school structures as needed. The school renovation work will be physically demanding. The other works includes painting, digging, mixing of cement, sand, and gravel, and plastering. Volunteers may also be asked to help with other reconstruction-related activities. Interested volunteers can teach English in free time or assist the teachers in school.
In this trip, expect yourself in a beautiful rural village of Nepal working on a humanitarian project which aims to offer a safe schooling environment for poor kids. You will be staying with a host family, eating local food. You will experience a real village life of Nepal taking outdoor shower (pumping water from a tube well), using very simple rest room, and exploring or hiking in villages in free time. You will live a life of a real volunteer immersing in Nepali culture and accumulating joy and happiness for being able to help the poor kids and communities.
Accommodation, Food, Transportation
Volunteers live in a host family. The accommodation will be basic, clean, and well ventilated. In most cases, volunteers get separate rooms. In some cases, same sex volunteers share a room in host family. Beds will be provided, however volunteers are required to bring their own sleeping bag, sheet and a pillowcase.
We manage local food 3 times a day for volunteers. Morning breakfast in Nepal would be tea and bread. Food would be fresh, healthy, and locally available. Rice, vegetable curry, dal (lentil soup) are popular Nepali food. Food and a local cook will be provided at the project base. Global Crossroad provides airport receive and transport to volunteers. We also manage local transportation.
Remarks: Due to the uncertainties of number of participants and funding that we can collect, Nepal project will be carried out in 2 or 3 different phases. For the first group, the results may not be obvious (or partially obvious), but we will send the photos to all the participants upon the completion of the project. |
