To bridge this gap, Global Crossroad organizes dental care volunteer program in Nepali hospitals. Here, volunteers have the valuable opportunity to closely observe experienced dentists and specialists, gaining hands-on experience by watching dental procedures, learning techniques, and understanding patient interactions.
As an international dental volunteer, you can help local dental professionals in Nepal and learn valuable dental skills with professionals. Your contribution will improve dental hygiene awareness and provide essential care to underprivileged communities.
Volunteer Responsibilities & Impacts
As a dental volunteer, your responsibilities encompass a range of essential tasks. You'll observe experienced dentists and specialists, closely watching dental procedures to learn techniques and patient interactions.
Additionally, you'll support dentists and their teams by preparing treatment rooms, sterilizing equipment, and aiding during dental procedures, all while managing administrative tasks like patient records and appointments.
Your role extends to providing basic patient care, including taking medical histories, recording vital signs, and ensuring patient comfort during appointments. Under the guidance of licensed dentists, you'll perform routine dental procedures such as cleanings, fluoride treatments, and X-rays, while also helping identify dental issues and discussing treatment plans with patients.
Most often, you'll work in the outpatient department of dental clinics and hospitals, attending to patients during routine check-ups, consultations, and minor dental procedures. Team collaboration is key, as you often work alongside other healthcare professionals like oral surgeons and orthodontists to provide comprehensive care to patients.
Skills and Qualifications
To join this dental volunteer program, you need to have either a recognized dentistry qualification or be a student in the dental care field.
Volunteering in this dental project in Nepal will be a rewarding experience and your days will be fun and exciting as you learn a great deal from local dentists.
Working hours may vary slightly, but you can expect to work 3-4 hours per day, Monday to Friday. Your volunteer shift is in the afternoon.
First Day : On your first day of volunteering in a dental project in Nepal, you will be brought to your project placement by our passionate in-country coordinator. They will introduce you to the local project staff and give you an informative orientation. You’ll learn about your duties, your schedule, safety protocol, and go over the culture and customs of Nepal.
Weekdays : Your dental work begins on the second day. A typical day might look something like this:
7.00 to 7.30 AM : Begin your day with breakfast and tea.
7.45 AM : Leave your volunteer house and travel to your project site. If you’re traveling by local bus, you can do so cheaply but show up early, but don’t be surprised if it’s late, and be prepared to stand if it gets really crowded. 12.00 PM : Break for lunch. Spend the time connecting with your fellow volunteers and project staffand make friends from around the world!
3.00 PM : Work at the placement usually ends. You’ll be free to travel to your volunteer house, prepare for the next day or do some shopping and sightseeing.
6.45 PM : Every evening you will have a traditional dinner at your volunteer house. Immerse yourself in the local culture, practice your Nepali language, and make the most of your time in this fascinating country.

Global Crossroad's volunteer program in Nepal application and registration fee cost US$299. In addition to the application fee, you are required to pay a weekly program fee. You will pay your weekly fee directly country coordinator. And he will distribute it room, food, and project. This ensures the transparency of your fee. And This way, the fees that you pay will benefit those who rightfully deserve them, and not for company profit.

Program Fees Exclude:

The volunteer trip to Nepal program fees will cover expenses that will begin on the first day of the program (usually the first or third Monday of the month) to the last day of the program. If you arrive before the first day of the program or you decide you stay beyond your programs last day, you will be responsible for the additional expenses.
Accommodation and Meal
While volunteering in Nepal, you will be staying in our safe and secure 2-story volunteer house. GCR will provide you with a secure and safe accommodation throughout your stay.
In addition, you will also get three delicious local Nepali home cooked meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) per day. Be prepared to enjoy your new home and learn new culture and language.
Free Time and Weekend Exploration
You will have plenty of free time to explore Nepal during your volunteer project. In the week you will work for 4-5 hours and spend your evenings discovering around the city of Kathmandu. Safety and In Country Support
Your safety our priority. GCR takes serious comprehensive steps to ensure that you always feel safe and comfortable while undertaking your volunteer project. You will also be supported to take all the necessary preparations, and when you arrive in Nepal you will have an in-country coordinator available at all times of day if you need help. In addition, every year international officials from GCR travel to reevaluate all the projects in Nepal to ensure your safety.
Dental Volunteering Nepal: FAQs
Arrival and Departure
You will have to fly into Tribhuvan International Airport for medical volunteer program in Nepal. Global Crossroad provides you airport pick up services ensure you share your fight details with our airport representatives once they are confirmed. However, GCR does not provide airport transfer services after the completion of its medical volunteer projects, you are free to ask the host family or local coordinator to help you get transportation to the airport
If you miss you flights or if their flight gets delayed, they should notify our country coordinator as soon as possible so that airport pick up time can be changed. We also advise that you come one day earlier to be able to participate in the projects.
Visa
A valid tourist visa is needed to join dental volunteer program in Nepal. You can obtain a tourist visa by applying for a single entry tourist visa at the embassy or consulate of Nepal based in your home country. But it can take some days to fully process your visa application form.
There’s visa on arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport. If you are the UK, USA, Australia or Canada, you can apply for visa on arrival and get entry into Nepal. A 90-day single entry tourist visa will cost you US$100.
You can also apply for a visa extension and continue working in Nepal dental volunteer program by visiting the Immigration Office of Nepal in Kathmandu/Pokhara.

Vaccinations
To participate in dental project in Nepal, vaccination is a must. The most recommended vaccines for Nepal are Hepatitis A, Yellow Fever, Malaria, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Japanese Encephalitis, chickenpox, Polio, Rabies, and MMR.

Will I be working in a hospital or clinic?
You will mainly work in hospitals in Kathmandu, Chitwan and Pokhara. However, there are some small community based clinics in which you might be placed. Placements depend mainly on the skills and competence of each individual volunteer.
Are there any specific details that are necessary to be aware?
It is important to note that this is not an opportunity to fill the shoes of local doctors; this is more of a learning and observational opportunity. It is important to have an open and flexible mind.
