In this program, first you will dedicate your time and energy to a group of orphans. You will work to improve the current and future lives of these abandoned and destitute children. Your work will be highly rewarding and make a significant impact on the lives of the children with whom you volunteer. And at the end of the program you will explore the major tourist attractions of Ghana.

Mini Volunteer and Safari Escape in Ghana Proposed Schedule

A mini volunteer and safari escape in Ghana combines the heartfulling act of volunteering with the mind-opening effects of traveling.

Day 0: Arrival and welcome

You will be met at the airport by our staff and swiftly transferred to our hostel.

Day 1: Orientation and discussion

Your volunteer abroad for 2 weeks in Ghana program will start with the orientation of Ghana’s rich history, politics, culture, geography, and other issues. The orientation also covers your health, safety, do and do not’s in Ghana, and a general questions and answers session. The first day you will also visit the project, meet the local staff, introduce yourself, and discuss work responsibilities

Day 2 - 10: Volunteer work (Orphanage/medical/teaching English)

The next day, your volunteer work starts. For the next 10 days of your charity work abroad, you will work at the project of your interest. You can work at an orphanage or a school where you will mostly teach English and organize extracurricular activities like drawing, singing, playing outdoors, and interactive games.

Or, you can decide to take part in a medical program and work alongside healthcare professionals in Ghana. There are opportunities to work in the following departments: gynecology, neurology, orthopedics, obstetrics, pediatrics, and surgery. Your specific roles and responsibilities will vary based on your medical/educational background and training. If you chose this route for the volunteer section of your short term volunteer trip in Ghana, you can either work in a hospital or clinic. Regardless of which volunteer program you decide to take part in, your experience with be highly rewarding and impactful.

Day 11 - 14: Ghana Discovery and travel

After ten days of sharing your time with children and/or patients in need, you will say goodbye. Now it is time to travel and explore! For the next 3 days of your short term volunteer opportunity in Ghana, you will explore the beautiful country of Ghana.

Day 11: Explore Accra

Your Ghana travel program will start from the capital city of Accra.

You will tour the city's museums, buildings, beaches, and the nightlife. Accra is a modern and event filled city. You will start the tour by arriving at the National Museum, which contains artifacts of pre-historic origin and relics of chieftaincy.

You will continue onto a guided tour of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, where Ghana's independence was declared. Then, you will tour the home of Dr. W.E.B. Dubois, the African-American who spent the last few years of his life helping to build the foundations of this new state. Attractions at the WEB Dubois Memorial Centre for Pan African Culture include his tomb, a museum, a library, and a very interesting narration.

Day 12: Explore Kukum National Park

The next day you will travel to Kakum National Park to witness the semi deciduous tropical rain forest. You will trek on the Kenton trail or enjoy a walk on one of only four canopy walkways in the world and get to know the medicinal value of the various African tree species. You will visit Elmina Castle, the slave castle and the first and largest European edifice on the coast of West Africa, which was built in 1482. And, then you will explore the Cape Coast Castle, which became the seat of British colonial administration until 1877. The history of black slavery unfolds as you tour around these castles.

Day 13:  Travel to Volta region

In the final day of your short term volunteer trip in Ghana, you will visit the region that is home to the unique Mona and Pata monkeys. Located in Volta Region, the monkeys are found in a sanctuary called the Tafi Monkey Sanctuary. Much of the sanctuary have been destroyed, but an effort is underway to preserve the remaining forest.

Day 14: Closing of the program

You will arrive in Accra, where your tour will conclude.
