Mini Volunteer and Travel Escape in India Proposed Program Schedule

A mini volunteer and travel escape in India is a perfect blend of humanitarian work and exploratory adventure

Day 0

Arrive at the Indira Gandhi International Airport Delhi followed by a transfer to your host family.

Day 1: Welcome and orientation

Your short term volunteer opportunity in India will start with an orientation at our Delhi office. The orientation covers our volunteer projects, work responsibilities, health, climate, safety, do & do not’s, and other pertinent topics. You will visit the project site and be introduced to the local project staff.

Day 2-11: Volunteer service project (orphanage/teaching/medical)
work with children

During this section of your charity work abroad for two weeks in India, you will chose between working at an orphanage, teaching at a local school, or assisting in a hospital or clinic.

If you decide to volunteer at the orphanage, you will help a group of abandoned and underprivileged children. You will mainly be teaching conversational English, but will also assist with other creative activities. You will also be of great value teaching hygiene and life skills.

With the teaching project, you will mainly work as an assistant teacher in a rural local school. If you decide to go the medical program route, you will work alongside healthcare professionals either in a local clinic or hospital. Your specific involvement with the medical program will depend on your educational and medical background and experience.

You will have your evenings free during your short term volunteer abroad in India experience. It is highly recommended that you venture out and explore!

Day 12-14: Three Day Exploration of India’s Golden Triangle

For the next 3 day, you will explore the incredible Golden Triangle, which includes, the pink city of Agra, the beautiful city of Delhi, and Agra, which is where the world famous Taj Mahal is located. The Golden Triangle captures perfectly the pageantry of India -a gorgeous panorama of majestic architectural creations and a rich tradition of art and culture. In this journey you will discover the marble symphony of Shahjahan's Taj Mahal, the imperial elegance of Lutyens' New Delhi , and the splendor of the royal city of Jaipur with landmarks such as Hawa Mahal.

You will begin with an afternoon sightseeing tour of the multi-faceted and intriguing city of Delhi. Your first stop is the Red Fort, which was built by the great Mughal emperor Shah Jehan when he shifted the capital from Agra to Delhi.

After a short drive you will explore the great mosque, the Jama Masjid, and walk around the lanes of Chandni Chowk, the "Silver Street"as you take in the ambiance of a bygone era. Then you will travel to the Mahatma Gandhi memorial at Rajghat and observe Qutab Minar. Later, you will travel to Hamayun's tomb.

A drive through Delhi's broad tree-lined avenues will bring you to India Gate, a memorial to the unknown soldier; Rashtrapati Bhawan, the residence of the president of India; and then on to the Connaught Circus, a shopper's paradise.

DAY Two: Visit to Agra - Explore Taj Mahal
aagra

After breakfast, you will begin the 4-hour drive to Agra. You will pass through quaint villages, working farms, and the changing landscape of rural India. You will visit the renowned Taj Mahal, which was built by the grief-stricken emperor Shah Jahan as a memorial of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. Considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Taj Mahal not only offers viewers a masterpiece of wonder, but it is a reminder of a love story of passion and devotion.

Day Three: Explore Jaipur

You will explore Rajasthan and the Pink City during this great day of your short term volunteer trip in India. You will proceed to Jaipur and en route visit Fatehpur Sikri, a fascinating ghost town. Emperor Akbar built a new capital here only to abandon it a few years later for lack of water. Today its fortifications, massive gateway, and palaces are a wonderfully preserved reminder of a mighty past kingdom.

jaipur

You will enjoy an afternoon sightseeing tour of the Pink City, Jaipur. You will visit the City Palace, a blend of Mughal and Rajasthani architecture, which is now a museum containing priceless relics of Jaipur's princely past. Not far from the Jantar is Mantar, which is where the beautiful Hawa Mahal, “Palace of Winds " is located. Tall and pink and laced with delicate pierced stones, this monument is not really a palace. The queens of Jaipur and the royal ladies once used this decorative facade to watch, unobserved, numerous festive processions winding through the streets of their city.

Later in the day, you will return to Delhi and visit our office.

The proposed itinerary for your short term volunteer opportunity in India is a sample and is subject to change to meet the changes in the local field conditions.
