Role of Volunteer

Global Crossroad's volunteer program in Thailand application and registration fee cost US $299. The application fee covers the cost of advertising, program promotion, and office expenses (rent, utilities, and staff salaries in USA office).
In addition to the application fee, you are required to pay a weekly program fee . You will pay your weekly fee directly to the country coordinator, who in turn will allocate it to your host family, project and other in-country support we offer to our volunteers. This way, the fees that you pay will benefit those who rightfully deserve them, and not for company profit.

The Thailand volunteer experience program fees will cover expenses that will begin on the first day of the program (usually the first or third Monday of the month) to the last day of the program. If you arrive before the first day of the program or you decide you stay beyond your program’s last day

Where do the volunteers live while working for this volunteering overseas in the elephant project in Thailand? How about transportation?
You will arrive in Thailand and will spend your first orientation weekend in a guest house in Bangkok. Then you will move on to Surin, where you will live in one of the shared houses. The houses are a 20 to 30 minute drive away from the placement area.
How many daily hours will the volunteers work as part of this volunteer in the elephant program opportunity in Thailand?
You will work 4 days a week from 9am-3pm. The schedule may be subject to change depending on the actual needs of the local situation. During the hot season you'll start working at 7am in order to avoid the hot midday.
Is this volunteer in the elephant program in Thailand available all year long?
The project is available all year long, however one week for Christmas and New Year our local staff also has time off. If you wish to volunteer during the time mentioned above please contact us in advance.

Please be advised that riding of the elephants is strictly prohibited. In Thailand the relationship between mahout and elephant is something that is greatly respected and valued.
