In participants' free time (usually in the evening), volunteers can organize games, teach drawing lessons, singing, dancing, and other creative, educational and extra-curricular activities. In the evening time, volunteers will help children with their homework, monitor academic progress, and make sure the children complete the next day's homework. If volunteers choose not to teach in school during the day time, participants can offer to take care of children remaining in the orphanage (who cannot go to school). Your help is also expected in dressing children, distributing food, assisting in the kitchen, maintaining the garden, and helping with assorted administrative work.

In Sri Lanka , Global Crossroad collaborates with local orphanages and children support organizations aiming to support displaced, abandoned, and abused children. This project allows volunteers to leave a positive mark by touching the lives of orphans. In this volunteer project in Sri Lanka , participants can spend their invaluable quality time living with the orphaned children as a part of their family. Not only do these unfortunate children need love, care and attention, but the poorly-understaffed orphanage centers need the willing, helping hands of volunteers as well.
