As a volunteer in orphanage project, volunteers will teach English (3-4 hours a day) in an orphanage or school (when the orphaned children go to schools during the day). Volunteers will help children stay clean by helping them brush their teeth, shower, and teaching them issues pertaining to personal hygiene. In participants' free time (usually in the evening), volunteers can organize games, teach drawing lessons, singing, dancing, and other creative, educational and extra-curricular activities. In the evening time, volunteers will help children with their homework, monitor academic progress, and make sure the children complete the next day's homework. If volunteers choose not to teach in school during the day time, participants can offer to take care of children remaining in the orphanage (who cannot go to school). Your help is also expected in dressing children, distributing food, assisting in the kitchen, maintaining the garden, and helping with assorted administrative work.

Volunteers can fly to Tibet (1 hour flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa ). Alternately, volunteers can travel by land, but it takes 14-24 hours (depending on road conditions).

Day 16 (Third Monday of the month) :
General question/answer session with Tibet staff, 1-2 hours orientation about project, host family, safety issues, and general rules of program. Transfer to project, introduction to project staff, host family and project work begins.
Day 17-Day 27:
For the next 12 days, volunteers will work in an orphanage and teach English (joint project) in Tibet
Just outside of the cultural capital of Lhasa and near the world-famous Potala place, volunteers will teach English to poor, destitute, and disabled children. Most of the time, volunteers in teaching projects work as instructors or assistant English teachers. However, we welcome your participation and help in the school's extra-curricular activities, such as sports, games and other activities (such as sanitation-education programs). Volunteers usually teach 2-3 hours a day for 5 days a week, working with children 6-13 years of age.
The school staff supports volunteers and helps them to understand the local curricula and teaching methods, as well as helping to resolve communication barriers. Tibet has been isolated from the rest of the world for many years, so the English level of local students is poor. Therefore, English teaching in Tibet is truly a challenging and rewarding job – often making a difference in the lives of both students and teachers.
Day 28 (last Friday of the month):
Closing of program, preparation for return/departure to home country.
